Opowiada historię życia szkockiego zbójnika i banity Roberta Roya MacGregora (1671–1734). Cunningham porywa MacGregora. Kiedy porywacz prezentuje swojego więźnia Markizowi, MacGregor ucieka. Ten wraca do swojej rodziny. Nagrody Tim Roth, odtwórca roli Archibalda Cunninghama, otrzymał nagrodę BAFTA oraz KCFCC (Kansas City Film Critics Circle) w kategorii „Najlepszy aktor drugoplanowy”. I feel this is the superior film. Everyone gives a fine performance and I'll forgive some dodgy accents from Lange and Stoltz. Although both Brian Cox and John Hurt are both pretty nasty fellows, Tim Roth takes the scone as one of the most vile characters ever to grace the screen. Yes, the film can be seen as old-fashioned, so what? It's looks good, the acting is great, and that is one fucking hell of a sword fight at the end. This and Braveheart releasing in 1995 and Brian Cox being in both of them is just wild. Rob Roy, with Liam Neeson as He-Man in a kilt, is a respectable 18th century Scotland epic of lords versus peasants that has lots of cumbersome exposition. But it’s such a classy adventure with finely tuned classicist dialogue that its’ hard not to fall under its languorous spell. A money loan is fleeced that belongs to Neeson, his wife Jessica Lange, and a number of clan members from his lowly community. Neeson will argue for fairness, then fight for honor. What gives this story a jolt is John Hurt as a haughty aristocrat and Tim Roth as a snooty swordsman plunderer – two characters that rouse you to hate them. When Neeson is under arrest, he has a spectacular escape… If there's one thing us Jocks love it's a story about a rebel. Whether it's a historically iffy take on William Wallace or an even iffier take on Scotland's own version of Robin Hood, Rob Roy MacGregor, we love it when one of our own sticks it to those English Caton-Jones' film released in the same year as Mel Gibson's Braveheart is another of those stirringly patriotic movies that make you want to beat up the next Sassenach you see. Featuring an Irishman and a Yank in the lead roles as Rob and Mary MacGregor, this made up for its shortcomings with not one, not two, but three villainous baddies. Step forward John Hurt, Brian Cox, and the… Like others have said, at the very least see this for Tim Roth who's just a scummy piece of shit and definitely enjoying it. Tim Roth...What a complete and utter bastard! Still the best Neeson ass-kicking delivery device. It takes a truly special degree of bad luck to release a historical epic about a Scottish rebel taking on the nobility the same year that “Braveheart” came out, but alas, such was the fate of “Rob Roy”, set four centuries later but in a not too dissimilar environment. As much as I loathe the thought of praising Mel Gibson, his film is simply better and told on a grander scale. “Rob Roy” has often been described, and clearly sees itself, as a Western set in the Highlands, so the violence doesn’t unload in elaborate battle set pieces, but one-on-one duels, shootings and the most profound of violations human beings can do to each other. This is still a strong,… He’s got a very particular set of kilts. Honor bound Scottish clan leader Rob Roy battles a curly wigged landlord asshat, the most evil prancing dandy I ever did see and has a good ole time with the missus amongst the majestic Scottish Highlands. Largely overshadowed by Braveheart, this one is worth another watch as it has a more authentic feel for the daily life of the common folk at that time. Also it has some of the best sword fighting ever filmed where the wounds hurt and physical exhaustion takes it toll. Liam Neeson, the size of that feller. Slow in spots but be sure to stick around for the climatic Qui Gon Jinn vs Darth Maul showdown."But what I do have is a very particular set of kilts" - Liam Neeson as Rob Roy As a Scotsman living in England sometimes movies about Scotland are my way of re-engaging with my roots. Michael Caton-Jones delivered a rip roaring adventure story dedicated to highland legend Rob Roy MacGregor, a film that starred actors from almost every country, but not many from Scotland. Back in 1995 this movie was overshadowed by the Oscar baiting "Braveheart" and was criminally regarded as a lesser film. Yes, we have two films about Scottish folk heroes played by foreigners, American Mel Gibson and Northern Ireland's Liam Neeson, and although both were convincing enough it would have been nice to have had a Scottish lead. Rob Roy may well have been the underdog at the box office, but it had just… Film #10 of the "Scavenger Hunt" ChallengeTask #29 A Revenge FilmMy wife is of Scottish heritage, her parents emigrated to Canada and now all her family is back over in the UK. My family's heritage, while much more entrenched in Canada, is from England.
